Text of letter (dated Apr 16th, 1945):
To The Worshipful Master of Each Lodge;
My Dear Worshipful Master:
He labored long in the dark of night:
He saw the dawn but was denied the light,
On Thursday, April 12th, 1945 a great Mason was called to the Grand Lodge Above. Although he was not a member of this Jurisdiction every Mason wheresoever located has suffered a personal loss and it is fitting that we in Ontario should join with the Masons of his own country in our expression of grief at his passing.
I, therefore, direct that all of our Lodges observe a period of mourning for Bro. Franklyn Delano Roosevelt by draping the Altar and Charter for their next regular meeting, and that suitable tribute be paid to his memory by the Worshipful Master or by some brother appointed for that purpose.
I further direct that, as part of our tribute, a period of silence be observed, with the brethren standing at the Sign of Fidelity.
Yours Fraternally,
Grand Master
